FORT HOOD, TX - January 11, 2007 - Azbell Electronics has been selected to participate as a founding member on the board of The Huntsville System and Mechanical Engineering Center of Excellence (HSMECOE) located on Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville Alabama. Northrop Grumman Corporation is the co-chair of the HSMECOE along with BG Nick Justice, Deputy Program Executive Officer, Command, Control, and Communications Tactical(PEO C3T). The Center of Excellence was created to solve technical issues facing the US Army and DoD acquisition community in integrating command and control, communications, and other systems into war fighter platforms. Technical issues include weight, space, power, ergonomics, crew and operator protection, and technology insertion. The result of this collaboration decreases the time and effort needed to field solutions in support of the Global War on Terrorism and the Warfighter of the future. The HSMECOE will bring together the best of the industry and academia, working in partnership with the Army and DoD acquisition communities to solve short and long term issues.
A primary goal of the HSMECOE is to create a Knowledge Database of existing solutions in order to decrease the design schedule and cost, facilitate rapid prototyping, and ensure a smooth transition to production. A secondary goal of the HSMECOE is to create efficiencies in the production phase by leveraging existing and future product technology. Azbell has designated Charles R. Craven, Vice President of Operations to manage the program with support from Azbell Electronics' advisory board members, Dr. Corey Carbonara PhD, Dr. Michael Korpi PhD, and GEN (Retired) Thomas A. Schwartz. Dr. Carbonara and Dr. Korpi are professors at the Baylor University and specialize in leading edge communication and display technologies. One of their primary contributions will be anticipating communication industry trends in order to provide the HSMECOE initiative with commercial development insight. Additionally, both are involved in industry standards boards which will provide the HSMECOE with time sensitive development information. General (retired) Schwartz served in the United States Army for nearly 35 years and retired at the Army’s highest rank. He served as the Commander in Chief, United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command/ Commanding General, United States Forces Korea and is also the Former Commanding General, United States Army Forces Command. The HSMECOE initiative will allow Azbell Electronics to participate in the development and deployment of leading edge technologies for DoD. Membership in the HSMECOE supports the company's expanding role in DoD and Homeland Security solution development and service to our nation.
