New display technologies enhance command centers

Several organizations within the US armed forces have recently introduced new display technologies that enhance situational awareness and, in the cases of tactical command posts, can greatly reduce the weight and bulk of equipment.

The US Marine Corps’ One Marine Expeditionary Force (I MEF), based at Camp Pendleton in southern California, has inaugurated its Marine Command Center (MCC): a 22,150m facility housill9 multiple command-and-control rooms that is intended primarily to provide ‘reach-back’ support for the force’s 45,000 Marines during expeditionary deployment. The project was implemented in five months from concept to completion at a cost of US$13 million.
